Coastal Erosion Kio, Gatokae

This beach was sand until high tides from November removed all in a matter of days.

Inundated coconuts illustrate the enormous area of land eroded and submerged.

Beach erosion

Valuable protective vegetation exposed and no longer holding ground in place.

Small area of existing stone wall (at bottom of frame).

Foreshore erosion.
The protective buffer of coastal vegetation is being rapidly removed.

Roads have traditionally been well clear of the highest water mark
but are now encroached.
